Program Goal
The goal of the Lee Family Foundation Scholarship is to offer academic radiologists an intensive, supervised career development experience in medical imaging research. This award is based upon the familiar NIH K-awards (mentored career development award) and intended to support junior faculty in establishing an independent research career.
Award Rules
- $200,000/year for 3 years
- Option to extend an additional 1 or 2 years at the discretion of the Lee Family Foundation Scholar committee following continuing review after year 2.
- Grant is limited to $1,000,000 over 5 years for each scholar
- Up to 75% of award each year can be dedicate to salary support.
- 100% of these funds must be utilized for direct costs
Scholar Eligibility Criteria
- Faculty appointment in the Department of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital
- Instructor or Assistant Professor appointment at Harvard Medical School
- 60-80% of FTE (full time equivalent) dedicated to research during each year of award
- Within 5 years of completing radiology training at start of term
- Candidates may have other sources of research support; but these sources will be taken into consideration when assessing the competitiveness of the application.

- CV in Harvard Medical School Faculty format
Letters of Support
- Research mentor letter attesting to his or her willingness to mentor the candidate on the proposed science and providing an assessment of the candidate’s career potential.
- Another research faculty providing an assessment of the proposed science and of the candidate’s career potential. Ideally, this letter is from someone who is not directly involved in the proposed science.
- Clinical division chief affirming the percentage of candidate’s work effort that will be dedicated to clinical duties.
